Work in the Kisunzu Lab at Colorado College focuses on studying the properties and reactivity of strained molecules – particularly benzynes and other arynes. Our lab is interested in contributing to the field of aryne chemistry through the development of complementary methods to access and apply these strained intermediates. Highlights from our work on new aryne reactions, alternate methods of aryne generation, and computational analysis will be discussed. This work will be placed in the broader context of a career trajectory in organic chemistry and academia, with insights into the ways that personal experiences, mentorship, representation, and other practices continue to inform the work that we do.
