Effectively removing metallic impurities from diamond wire sawing silicon powder (DWSSP) waste is research hotspot in the photovoltaic industry. This study proposes a new method to remove impurity Al from DWSSP, using Na2CO3 as a sintering aid for liquid phase sintering followed by acid leaching. Na2CO3 as sintering addictive has two functions in this experiment, one is to produce CO2 to form DWSSP-Ceramics with pores and the other is to produce Na2O for liquid phase sintering to accumulate impurities, both of which contribute to the removal of Al by subsequent acid washing. In particular, by adding 15% Na2CO3, the impurity Al in DWSSP could be reduced to 0.07 ppm and the removal rate could reach 99.92%, compared to 45.78% without the addition of Na2CO3. Moreover, lower sintering temperature and time are required for sintering due to liquid phase sintering, which would reduce high-temperature energy consumption and may have potential industrial application. The addition of sintering agents to remove impurity Al will provide new enlightenment for recovery of DWSSP.
