Photochemical reactions allow spatial and temporal control of redox reactions. The formation of a triplet excited state is of special interest because its longer lifetime enables more complex reactions to occur. Photoacids are compounds that become more acidic following photoexcitation and undergo excited state proton transfer (ESPT). There have been various studies regarding ESPT in the singlet excited state of photoacids, but the triplet excited state is not as well-documented. Here, we explore the photosensitization of the photoacid 8-amino-2-naphthol (8N2OH) by triplet energy transfer (TET) from benzophenone and iridium complexes. We propose to use transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) and time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) emission spectroscopy to probe the effect of the photosensitizer and solvent on the triplet 8N2OH yield. We discuss how the two competing PT sites, NH<sub>3</sub><sup>+</sup> and OH, affect the proton transfer mechanisms upon photoexcitation.
