The world is at a critical juncture and its commitment to end hunger by 2030 has been marred by unprecedented population growth, climate change, and air pollution. This paper addresses the issue of the adverse impacts of ozone air pollution on global crop production. Ozone is a secondary air pollutant that enters plants through stomatal pores and causes damage to foliage by altering the redox balance in cells. Several metrics are available to evaluate the global crop yield losses due to elevated ozone levels. Although studies differ in their estimates of agricultural loss, they still provide sturdy evidence that ozone pollution contributes to substantial crop damage. Thus, mitigation of ozone pollution is important for enhancing food security and ending hunger.
