The following research project aims for the synthetic and biological evaluation of non-symmetrical heterocyclic ferrocenyl chalcones. Chalcones have show to be an important synthetic target for a vast array of biologically active compounds. This α,β-unsaturated system with two aromatic substituents provides opportunity for  countless derivatives. In this work, the aromatic substituents will be, organometallic ferrocene and biologically present heterocycles. Both aromatic moieties, ferrocene and heterocycles, have shown significant biological relevance and the proposed hybrids could result in potential drug candidates. Ferrocenyl chalcones can be of System 1, meaning that the ferrocene is alpha with respect to the carbonyl group, or System 3 ferrocenyl chalcones whose ferrocene group is in the gamma position with respect to the carbonyl group. Herein, non-symmetric system 3 ferrocenyl chalcones bearing  heterocycles including, but not limited to indoles, thiophene and pyrimidines have been synthesized. Products were obtained via a Claisen-Schmidt condensation between ferrocenedicarboxaldehyde and the corresponding heterocyclic acetophenone. Reaction was stoichiometrically controlled to obtain the corresponding non-symmetric ferrocenyl chalcone with moderate yields ranging between 46%-72%. At least four novel ferrocenyl chalcone derivatives have been obtained and characterized via <sup>1</sup>H-NMR and <sup>13</sup>C-NMR spectroscopy. The stability of these compounds is being evaluated with aims to perform cytotoxicity assays against several cancer cell lines.
