Lignin isolation from different biomass sources was carried out by Klason method, using ethanol/benzene and sulfuric acid for carbohydrates hydrolysis. For characterization of the product, solubility tests were made, which gave results that matched with the ones reported previously by other authors. Besides that, lignin’s functional groups were identified by infrarred spectroscopy. The obtained spectrums for each lignin sample showed the expected bands that correspond to the functionals groups in lignin’s structure. The biomass source that had the best lignin yield was alfalfa and the worst one was wheat straw.
