This project examines how steric hindrance affects the stereochemical outcomes of the cis and trans isomers formed by the Wittig reaction. These effects were studied using experimental and computational data. A reaction matrix was conducted using different aldehydes and Wittig salts to compare the E:Z ratios of the isomers formed. Comparisons between experimental data in the Cambridge Crystallography Data Centre (CCDC) and theoretical data from Spartan Student were examined.
