Distal and proximal isomers of [Ru(dpop')(2,5-dppz)Cl](PF6) were prepared and separated using a protocol derived from previous work. Structures of the separated distal and proximal isomers were determined from NMR spectra following HRMS results consistent with the proposed formulae. Compared to the similar Ru(II) complexes with the 3,6-dppn ligand, these respective isomers undergo lower energy Ru(II) dπ→ dpop' pπ* MLCT transitions in the visible spectrum, and differences in the near UV spectra are attributed to the ancillary ligand replacement. Both proximal and distal isomers show reversible E1/2 (Ru(II/III) redox couples shifted to higher positive values compared to the 3,6-dppn isomers by ~ 100 mV, and reversible E1/2 (dpop' 0/-1) potentials shifted to less negative potential.
