The development of new C–C coupling reactions for the synthesis of complex molecules is a fundamental task in organic chemistry. Halogenated compounds are among the most important species in this context. The halogen–carbon bond is often split in such reactions. This makes the development of new C–C bond reactions in which the halogen is retained of great interest. So far there are only a few examples which start form haloacetylenes. These compounds are easy to synthesize and are stable at ambient temperatures, in contrast to fluoroacetylenes.<br/>In the field of homogenous gold catalysis, acetylenes represent one of the most important species. In most transition metal-catalyzed reactions, the alkyne unit is not conserved. There are only a few examples in which the halogen atom and the C–C triple bond are retained. First the haloalkynylation was only possible with norbornene systems. In more recent report, the gold(I)-catalyzed haloalkynylation of 1,1- and 1,2-disubstituted alkenes were described, leading to homopropagyl halides.<br/>We were able to extend the haloalkynylation with differently substituted acetylenes by careful choice of catalysts.
