The synthesis of a tetraaryl-substituted furan with carboxylic acids on two of the aryl groups is described.  This molecule has the potential to be used as a unique organic linker in metal organic-frameworks (MOFs). To make this linker, a concise 5-step synthetic route will be followed utilizing a unique and efficient rearrangement from a propargylic diol to a symmetric tetraaryl-substituted furan. Computational calculations of pore sizes as well as NMR and mass spectra supporting synthesis of intermediates will be presented.
