Transient strained cyclic allenes are useful building blocks for the synthesis of structurally and stereochemically complex heterocycles. Whereas common modes of reactivity of these intermediates include nucleophilic trappings and cycloaddition reactions, transformations that leverage transition metal catalysis with strained cyclic allenes remain underdeveloped. This presentation will focus on recent advances of Pd-catalyzed annulations of strained cyclic allenes. Through choice of readily available annulation partners and Pd catalyst, a diverse array of polycyclic products can be accessed. Furthermore, enantio- and diastereoselective variants of the annulation will be discussed.
