The value of mathematics beyond algebra and dimensional analysis is often underemphasized in the first two years of chemistry and biochemistry curricula; yet, the American Chemical Society’s Committee on Professional Training strongly recommends the study of multi-variable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra.  Unfortunately students do not always get this message.  Here we present exercises designed for calculus and general chemistry classes which are meant to communicate this advice to students early in their academic careers when they are deciding whether to continue the study of math beyond the two semesters of calculus required.
