Few students receive formal training in electrochemistry, but increasingly, inorganic chemists are turning to electroanalytical methods to investigate redox catalysis, realize new electrosynthesis routes to small molecules and organometallic compounds, and explore redox chemistry and the chemical reactions that can be coupled to reduction or oxidation. Despite the increasing commonplace of potentiostats in inorganic laboratories, researchers often feel lost when it comes to conducting cyclic voltammetry or related electrochemical measurements. This talk will provide a short introduction to cyclic voltammetry, designed to help the inorganic chemist with both data acquisition and interpretation. Tips and common pitfalls will be given, and attendees will leave with increased confidence and preparedness to conduct cyclic voltammetry measurements.
