Aliphatic polycarbonates, polyesters, and their statistical copolymers are hydrolysable and have received considerable attention as materials for medical applications. This presentation will describe the copolymerization of 2-(chlorocarbonyl)ethyl chloroformate (CFEO) and its chlorinated analog (Cl-CFEO) with various aliphatic diols under conditions that produce alternating and statistical poly(ester carbonate) copolymers.. This presentation will compare the hydrolytic stability of representative alternating poly(ester carbonate)s with those of the corresponding statistical copolymer and homopolymers.
