Resorcin[4]arenes are an important class of host molecules in supramolecular chemistry, which have been reported to exhibited profound affinity towards small guest molecules such as acetyl choline, amino acids, carbohydrates, amines, etc. However, the field is not yet significantly explored when comes to “chiral resolution” using resorcin[4]arenes. We have therefore synthesized chiral amino acid derived rigid resorcin[4] arene hosts of which preparative methods are inexpensive, scalable and provide a good yield throughout the entire synthetic routes. These chiral amino acid derived hosts are capable of solubilizing in water and possess fluorescent property with high stokes shift. More importantly, their fluorescent property are enhanced upon binding to a complementary guest molecule. Our synthesized fluorescent chiral resorcin[4]arene cavitands therefore have a potential to be utilized in the fields of fluorescent sensors and resolution of chiral guest molecules.
