One-dimensional (1D) Au nanowires (AuNWs) with high aspect ratios are a promising platform for a diverse array of technologies, such as infrared imaging, optical filters, transparent conductors, sensors, photovoltaics, light emitting diodes, and catalysts, due to their extraordinary combination of electronic, thermal, optical, electrocatalytic, and mechanical properties.  Development of these technologies relies on reproducible, scalable, and cost-effective synthesis methods, which provide facile tuning of structure and surface functionalization, as well as enabling formulation, processability, and morphological control of the AuNW assembly/ensemble.  Despite significant advancements in the synthesis of 1D AuNWs, their production with tunable structure (diameter and aspect ratio) at high yield is still challenging.  Herein, we demonstrated scale up synthesis of ultra-thin AuNWs with MidIR absorption via optimization of reaction parameters based on the seed mediated protocol.  Optical tunability and particle stability is achieved via strategic regrowth of diameter and aspect ratio. These robust scalable synthesis methods increase the versatility and agility of AuNWs, and expand their processibility, for coating applications that utilize their electronic, optical and mechanical properties.
