Silica gel has gained much attention in sorption of heavy metals because of its large surface area and high thermal and mechanical stability. Moreover, organic ligands immobilization onto mesoporous silica surface for removal of heavy metal from wastewater has been recently the focused of many reported researches. In this work, a new hybrid material based on silica and heterocyclic ligand was successfully synthesis from imidazopyridine on silica surface. This material was characterized using FT-IR, SEM, TGA and elemental analysis. This material found a high adsorption efficiencies towards Cu(II) from wastewater. Different parameters influencing the adsorption such as pH, contact time, initial concentration and temperature were also investigated.
