Our team of chemists and engineers have studied a reductive amination process to convert aldehydes to aliphatic diamines using heterogeneous Ni and Co catalysts. We elucidated complex reaction pathways for the intended reaction product and for side products. Using experimental data, we developed a kinetic reaction model for the products. During our research, we encountered challenges including difficult reaction mixture analysis and catalyst deactivation which hindered the ability to obtain reliable kinetic data. This presentation will cover insights and information gained in studying this process.
