The development of nanotechnology and contemporary research requires the use of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). In this study, a lignocellulosic mass made from the Cajanus cajan stem, an agricultural waste product, was used to make CNCs. CNCs have been extensively characterized after being successfully isolated from the Cajanus cajan stem. Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) and KBr mode FTIR (infrared spectroscopy) successfully validated the removal of extra components from the waste stem. The crystallinity index was compared using the ssNMR and XRD (X-ray diffraction). The extracted CNCs and the simulated XRD pattern were compared. The rod-like shape of the CNCs was discovered through surface analysis. The liquid crystallinity of the produced samples was evaluated using rheological techniques. We carefully considered how concentration affected optical anisotropy. The Cajanus cajan stem is a viable source for manufacturing anisotropic liquid crystalline CNCs for cutting-edge applications like photonics, as shown by the birefringence of these CNCs.
