<br/><br/>The purpose of this research is to explore the viability of a nickel catalyst for the use of late stage functionalization of NSAIDs. The experimental scheme is as follows: the carboxyl terminal of the drugs ketoprofen, naproxen, and indomethacin were functionalized with medically important heterocyclic amines with gem-difluoro alkenes para to the nitrogen, then installation of an aryl group with the nickel catalyst through catalytic dehalogenation. Using NMR and GCMS data it was determined that our Nickel-Ligand catalyst was an effective mechanism for the synthesis of the ketoprofen product and the naproxen product but that the indomethacin product was not stable and decomposed.
