Five D-A-D compounds were synthesized with the same �� linker, or donor group, but different acceptor groups with various electron-withdrawing properties. Looking specifically into DTP-TD, its 1,2,3-thiadiazole acceptor group gives the molecule a high electronegativity as well as a high redox state. Due to DTP-TD’s properties as an organic-light-emitting diode, the compound is especially useful in the production of electroluminescence of yellow light, indicative of its significant quantum yield. When compared against benzo[c]-[1,3,5]thiadiazole (DTP-BTD), the differences in their photophysical properties are shown to be representative of their different acceptor groups. The laser spectroscopy techniques used to investigate these properties were two-photon absorption (TPA) and time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC). In addition, steady-state experiments such as absorption and emission were conducted. Here we show that DTP-TD exhibits novel properties such as fast fluorescent decay and the capacity to absorb two photons. The immediate implications of these results suggest a benefit for the use of DTP-TD as opposed to other D-A-D compounds due to its high yield and quickly decaying fluorescent applications.
