Supply chain disruptions of parts can create a problem for engine operations. One solution in emergency conditions is to use parts made through additive manufacturing (AM) processes. In this poster, the swelling behaviors and mechanical properties of AM O-rings made from Flexible 80A will be compared with those of commercially produced O-rings. O-rings were exposed to jet fuel, diesel fuel, organic solvents, and surrogate mixtures. The swelling was determined using mass differences and images of the O-rings before and after exposure. The tensile strength was determined using an ADMET MTest Quattro tensile tester. The uptake of organic components into the AM polymer from the surrogate mixtures was analyzed using gas chromatography(GC)/flame ionization detection. The swelling was greatest for aromatic compounds. A one-week exposure of AM O-rings to jet fuel and diesel fuel produced swells of 15% and 13%, respectively.
