Fish scales are abundant and a great natural Hydroxyapatite (HAP) source. Herein we have reported a facile low-cost, green method for the extraction of Hydroxyapatite using an alkaline treatment of Labeo rohita (Rohu) fish scales. The SnS2 nanoparticles are grown over it via a hydrothermal technique using Ocimum tenuiflorum leaf extract. The prepared nanocomposite was characterized for surface morphology, functional groups, particle size, light harvesting property and the chemical environment through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), Ultraviolet-Visible diffused reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS) and X-ray photoelectron microscopy (XPS). The fabricated SnS2/HAP nanocomposite was investigated for toxic methyl orange dye degradation from the aqueous phase. It showed excellent photocatalytic activity within 60 min of sunlight irradiation, making it a sustainable and economical photocatalyst. Moreover, SnS2/HAP nanocomposite showed excellent stability and reusability for environmental remediation up to five repetitive cycles.
