Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are an exciting class of biodegradable polymer, which depending on their (co)polymer structure, can display comparable properties to key polyolefin materials. The polymer's relative stereochemistry (tacticity) is a crucial factor impacting many of the materials properties, yet the development of structure-property relationships for syndiotactic and isotactic PHAs have been limited. In this poster, we will describe the synthesis and characterization of aliphatic-substituted iso- and syndiotactic PHAs. The impact of PHA composition and microstructure on polymer properties will be discussed, with a focus on elucidating key structure-property relationships.
