This presentation summarizes what I learned from teaching general and organic chemistry to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, for more than 25 years, both in Europe and the United States.  The talk will focus on main differences and similarities between the European and the American educational systems, from curriculum development and pedagogical strategies to student expectations and performance.  I have been teaching different types of classes (lectures, laboratories, and recitations) to different class sizes (from16 to 230 students), in different environments, and to diverse student populations of different cultures, as well as of different scientific and/or social background.  For many of the taught classes, I was also in charge of the curriculum design.  Additionally, for the past 9 years, I have been coordinating the team-teaching of the general chemistry service courses at Drexel University (up to 1200 students and a team of up to 30 instructors).
