Phytochemicals are biologically active compounds in plants that have been found to exhibit antibacterial properties against certain bacteria. The presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has increased exponentially since the emergence of antibiotic drugs in the mid-1900s. Using medicinal plants as an alternative to antibiotics can reduce the spread of the antibiotic resistance crisis. In this study, four different types of plant extracts were examined: Levisticum officinale (lovage), Lavandula (lavender), Salvia rosmarinus (rosemary), and Perovskia atriplicifolia (Russian sage). This experiment aims to examine the antibacterial properties of various plant extracts in combination with Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. In addition, this study attempted to identify the phytochemical compounds within the plant extracts that are key contributors to antibacterial effects. The Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method was utilized to determine if the bacteria are susceptible to penicillin, streptomycin, and ciprofloxacin. The data showed whether or not there was a synergistic effect between these medicinal plants and antibiotics against the bacteria.
