Bacterial conversion of CO2 is an emerging strategy for carbon-neutral and carbon-negative biomanufacturing. Improving CO2 uptake and fixation is critical to developing processes for CO2 conversion. Here we will describe efforts to engineer a synthetic carbon concetraing mechanism (CCM) into model autotroph Cupriavidus necator by replacing its native system with CCM components found in chemoautotrophs and cyanobacteria. We will also describe a strategy to select for C. necator variants with altered flux through the Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle for CO2 fixation.
