<br/>It is crucial to understand how liquid solvents alter the adsorption energies of catalytic reaction intermediates in liquid-phase catalysis and electrocatalysis. Previous work has established that the dominate effect responsible for difference in gas-phase and liquid-phase adsorption energies on metal surfaces is the adhesion energy of the solvent to the surface multiplied by the area per adsorbate. Therefore, knowing values for solvent / solid adhesion energies is critical for understanding solvent effects in catalysis and electrocatalysis, and for using well-known gas-phase adsorption energies to estimate adsorption energies in various solvents.<br/>We report here adhesion energies of a variety of liquid solvents to clean Pt(111) and Ni(111) along with the first adhesion energy of a liquid solvent to clean Cu(111). These adhesion energies are estimated using single crystal adsorption calorimetry (SCAC) measurements of heats of adsorption versus coverage integrated from zero coverage us to thick (bulk-like) multilayer films. We also present adhesion energies estimated from temperature-programmed desorption measurements on Pt(111). Additionally, we expect to present new results for the adhesion energy of water on TiO<sub>2</sub> surfaces.
