Epoxy resin (ER), a typical thermosetting polymer has received attention as an electronic material due to adhesion, insulation chemical stability, and high mechanical strength. Recently electronic devices have been miniaturized and integrated with power generation, requiring high thermal conductive materials increased for heat dissipation. Unfortunately, ER has low thermal conductivity and is limited to applying electronic devices. Liquid crystal epoxy (LCE) has been investigated with high molecular alignment properties present to overcome these limitations. LCE exhibits high molecular alignment properties due to intermolecular interaction which can minimize phonon scattering during the heat conductive process and exhibit high thermal conductivity. In this study, we synthesized phenyl benzoate-based reactive mesogen with different alkyl chain spacers and polymerized in bulk scale. The synthesized LCE physical properties are investigated by GPC, POM, DSC, DMA, TGA and XRD. Due to the mesomorphic interaction, the synthesized LCE exhibits high thermal conductivity and excellent properties. Especially LCE which has a well-aligned orientation structure records higher thermal conductivity than others.
