Abstract: In this paper, we fabricated a durable ultra-hydrophobic fabric material from hydrophobic nanosized SiO2 particles and polydimethylsiloxane. First, SiO2 particles were treated with tetramethyldisilazane to obtain a vinyl hydrophobic functionalized silica nanoparticle. The functional SiO2 particles and polydimethysiloxane(PDMS) are then mixed into a homogeneous solution under the action of the solvent. Finally, the superhydrophobic fabric is obtained after dipping-coating in the solution then drying. Based on the characterization of infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) on the fabric, it is found that the surface of the superhydrophobic fabric has a uniform micro-nano rough structure, and the water contact angle is as high as 158°. Ever after the fabric was treated under UV radiation, sanding, water impact, tape stripping, and strong alkali/acid solutions, it can still maintain the superhydrophobic properties, which should be ascribed to the strong covalent interaction between the silica nanoparticles with PDMS during the drying process, in which the vinyl functionalized silica nanoparticles were involved into the crosslinking of PDMS, thus the formed covalent interaction could enhance the durability of this superhydrophobic fabric against external damage.
