Imines form an important class of ligands with many potential applications, including complexation with a Ru-center to form potentionally useful complexes. Specifically, compounds containing Schiff base ligands derived from 3,4,5-trimethoxyaniline and benzaldehyde derivatives have been shown to have the potential to inhibit microtubule formation. Only a handful of imine ligands of this type, however, have been synthesized and explored. This work seeks to expand the library of Schiff base ligands available for study. Novel ligands were created by combining 3,4,5-trimethoxyaniline with varying benzaldehyde derivatives. Synthesis and preliminary characterization of these compounds using multiple NMR experiments, IR, and UV/VIS spectroscopy will be presented.
