A novel azole-anion-based ionic liquids ([DMEDAH][IM], [DMEDAH][Py], and [DMEDAH][1,2,4-TZ],)-organic solvent (Ethylene glycol, EG) was proposed for CO2 capture to reduce the regeneration energy consumption. The effect of EG dosage, temperature, CO2 partial pressure on CO2 absorption performance was investigated. The results demonstrated that the CO2 absorption loading decreased with increasing EG dosage, temperature, while increased with CO2 partial pressure. The solvent of [DMEDAH][Py] (3.0 g)-EG (0.5 g) presents a better absorption performance with 0.18 g CO2 / g absorbent, which was 38.5% higher than that of MEA/water, and the regeneration efficiency was maintained at 90% after the fifth regeneration cycle. The absorption and desorption mechanism were investigated via NMR and quantum calculations indicating that CO2 reacted with the N atom of azole to form the carbamate directly. The novel azole-anion-based ionic liquids /EG solution with low energy consumption and good recyclability, which provides a sustainable strategy for advancing carbon capture technologies.
