The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically highlighted the extreme vulnerability in drug supply chains. Continuous sustainable supply of drugs for healthcare delivery is necessary to ensure delivery of affordable healthcare and provide drug security. Outdated processes are still in use to manufacture generic drugs e.g. Resolution of racemates. Our initial focus is on several drugs with opportunities to design significantly improved synthetic routes, incorporate new technologies, improve impurity profile, with use environmentally benign chemical reagents. We report herein some of our successes using new technologies that are paving the way to a sustainable future
