The work of Professor May Nyman spans a broad range of materials that has created substantial impacts in the area of inorganic chemistry.  In this talk, I will describe the impacts of May's work throughout my career beginning as a postdoc and continuing through today.  Initial work focused on the energetics of lanthanum tantalite materials and then motivated my efforts on the crystallization of new aluminum polycation clusters.  More recently, my group has been inspired by work by the Nyman group on actinide peroxide chemistry that has led to new insights into the stability of U(VI) superoxide species.
