Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can help alleviate climate change via the non-covalent capture of excess atmospheric carbon dioxide. NbOFFIVE-1-Ni, a MOF synthesized in the past, shows promise for applications in direct air capture technology. To produce enough NbOFFIVE-1-Ni for industrial field testing, procedures established in the literature were upscaled. Using hydrothermal synthesis, NbOFFIVE-1-Ni was successfully produced in bulk. The synthesized NbOFFIVE-1-Ni was deemed sufficiently pure upon comparing the powder X-ray diffraction and carbon dioxide capture data to previously published findings.
