Objectives: Following CI surgery, all implantees of all ages can voluntarily participate in individual or group outpatient music therapy sessions. While the focus for adult CI recipients is primarily on training speech comprehension and improving music perception, the therapeutic approach for children is slightly adapted to their needs. Each music therapy session is tailored to the individual child, taking a holistic approach engaging as many senses as possible during one session. The therapist utilises a big range of high quality instruments to engage the users in rhythmic games, singing nursery rhymes, creating sound stories, dancing rhythmic choreographies or practice so called sound memory games. In addition, we try to motivate parents to continue to work with their children at home using useful selected digital media to improve auditory perception. Therefore, the training to improve their music and speech perception, exercises for the directional hearing, instrument recognition and sound differentiation are integrated in a playful way.
Methods: We monitor the progress of the children’s hearing journey using questionnaire such as the SSQ parental version evaluating the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing and monitor their daily wearing time before therapy start and after finishing the usually 10 units of therapy. Routine audiological measurements such as Oldenburger Sentence Test for children (OLKISA; WRS) were recorded before and after the start of the therapy sessions.
Results: The preliminary outcomes are very encouraging: The daily wearing time improved significantly from 9.6±2.38 to 11.2±1.97 (P=0.0457) and the dimension of Quality of Hearing for the SSQ improved significantly P=0.0078. The Word Recognition Score (WRS %) improved significantly to 72.00±18.14% (P=0.0078).
Conclusion: There is a significant improvement in subjective and objective measurements. Our department highly recommends the personalized approach for MT for all CI-recipients.

Effects of multidisciplinary therapy and at home training via direct streaming of SSD CI-children
