As clinical and regulatory professionals, it is our responsibility to take action to support sustainability in healthcare. Our goal was to develop strategies that can be employed by virtual, cross functional clinical and regulatory consulting teams to prioritize sustainability while working to bring drugs to the market. Synterex established a dedicated “Green Team” to plan company-wide sustainability initiatives over the course of a year and assess lessons learned from the experience. In 1 year, we were able to kickstart our sustainability journey by setting measurable goals, determining what resources were needed to achieve our goals, updating our policies and procedures to reflect these goals, and providing employees with the necessary training and incentives to support sustainability efforts. We have found that when the team works collaboratively, it is possible to make meaningful changes without impacting the speed or efficiency of the regulatory submissions process. By taking the time to consider the environmental and social impact of our business operations, we can all work together to enact changes that promote sustainability at each stage of the drug development lifecycle.
