Main Body of the Abstract
Background: Transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis is characterized by the misfolding, degeneration, and deposition of a liver-produced protein, primarily in cardiac muscle and peripheral nerves. This progressive deposition leads to significant morbidity and mortality for patients. Therefore, insights into early disease identification will enable faster access to disease-modifying therapies, which have been shown to improve mortality [1,2].
Objective: This project aims to characterize patients with varying ventricular septal thicknesses to assess trends. It is not known whether those with a less thick septum are indeed in an earlier stage of the disease process or if they experience fewer disease complications.
Methods: A cohort of 30 randomly selected patients from the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Cardiac Amyloid Clinic, diagnosed with TTR cardiac amyloid in 2023, was chosen. Predefined characteristics at the time of the initial referral were retrospectively collected. Electronic medical records were accessed to compile data. Parameters of note include left ventricular septal dimension (LVSd) size, pyrophosphate (PYP) scan heart-to-contralateral lung ratio, ejection fraction, diuretic requirement, NYHA Class, and medical history. Patients were also subdivided based on LVSd size at diagnosis (14mm or less vs. 15mm or greater) to observe any potential trends.
Results: This research reveals several meaningful associations. LVSd >14mm had higher proportion of patients with AFIB (80% vs. 53.3%), and taking scheduled furosemide (93.3% vs. 60.0%) than LVSd <14mm, although the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05) (Table 1). Overall, the results suggest that the larger the LVSd, the greater the disease morbidity. It also showcases a linear relationship between LVSd size and PYP heart-to-contralateral lung ratio (p=0.009) (Table 2).

Investigating Relationship of LVSd Size and Patient Characteristics of those Diagnosed with TTR Cardiac Amyloid PB62 (#146)

We invite you to attend the XIX International Symposium on Amyloidosis to be held in Rochester, MN.

This symposium is organized as a hybrid meeting (with the focus on in-person) held from Sunday, May 26 through Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Together with the ISA Board and members of Mayo Clinic, a very attractive scientific hybrid program is being planned. The program will cover a variety of types of systemic amyloidosis: ATTR (hereditary and wild-type), AL (light-chain), AA and less frequent forms. There will be key lectures, specific symposia including those company sponsored, oral presentations and poster sessions of accepted abstracts.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This program will provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art education in systemic amyloidosis: basic science, pathophysiology, diagnosis, current and emerging treatments. Scientific presentations will include competitive oral and poster abstracts. The rapid evolution of scientific discovery and expanding treatment options has created tremendous interest in the field and this meeting will fill and important gap in educating scientists and clinicians.
