Introduction:
Health disparities amongst ethnic groups are well documented in myeloma. NT-proBNP levels are 40% lower in Afro-Caribbean vs. Caucasians, with worse outcomes in heart failure. Little is, however, reported on ethnicity in AL amyloidosis. We compared disease characteristics and outcomes of patients across ethnic groups from the UK National Amyloidosis Centre.

Methods:
Patients enrolled in a prospective observational study at the UK National Amyloidosis Centre treated from 2010–2019 were analysed.

Results:
Of 1302 patients, 1265 had documented self-reported ethnicity: 1168 (92%) were White and 97 (8%) minority: 55 Black, 24 Asian, 13 Other, 5 Mixed. Baseline characteristics are shown (table 1). Patients from an ethnic minority presented at a younger age (59 vs 67 years, p<0.001). Pattern of organ involvement was similar (median:2 organs), however those from an ethnic minority had a lower presenting NT-proBNP (799 v 1577ng/L, p<0.001), with non-significantly lower troponin (39 v 55ng/L, p=0.15). Although a greater proportion of ethnic patients had severe heart failure symptoms (NYHA IV 2% v 0%), LV septal measurement (p=0.61), longitudinal strain (p=0.88) and dFLC (p=0.79) were similar compared with white patients. Overall survival (OS) did not differ amongst any ethnic group; achieving an NTproBNP<1000mg/L for survivors at 6 months predicted better OS similarly for white and minority groups.

Conclusion:
Non-white ethnic groups present with AL at a younger age with a significantly lower NT-proBNP despite GLS% raising concerns about utility of staging systems and underestimation of disease risks. Further analysis of across ethnicities with larger patient cohorts is required.

We invite you to attend the XIX International Symposium on Amyloidosis to be held in Rochester, MN.

This symposium is organized as a hybrid meeting (with the focus on in-person) held from Sunday, May 26 through Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Together with the ISA Board and members of Mayo Clinic, a very attractive scientific hybrid program is being planned. The program will cover a variety of types of systemic amyloidosis: ATTR (hereditary and wild-type), AL (light-chain), AA and less frequent forms. There will be key lectures, specific symposia including those company sponsored, oral presentations and poster sessions of accepted abstracts.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This program will provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art education in systemic amyloidosis: basic science, pathophysiology, diagnosis, current and emerging treatments. Scientific presentations will include competitive oral and poster abstracts. The rapid evolution of scientific discovery and expanding treatment options has created tremendous interest in the field and this meeting will fill and important gap in educating scientists and clinicians.
