Foundation of the Amyloid Forum and the German Society of Amyloidosis
In 1978, Dr. Erik Gruys from Utrecht asked me whether he and his colleagues could visit me in Munich to discuss various aspects of amyloidosis. His group and scientists from around Munichen were invited on May 20, 1978, to present their ideas and data. Due to the unexpected success of this first Amyloid Forum, it was unanimously agreed that this forum should be continued and extended. A total of 15 amyloid forums associated mostly with the Deutscher Pathologenkongress were held in Europe during 1978-2001 with a total of 164 presentations and printed abstracts. So far, there has only been one exception. The seventh amyloid forum, initiated by Dr. H.J. Albrecht, head physician at the Rheuma-Klinik in Oberammergau, took place on Oct. 08, 1993, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He invited seven internationally known scientists to present their work on AA amyloidoses at the Süddeutscher Rheumatologenkongress. Since Dr. Albrecht noted the exceptional progress in AA-amyloidosis with respect to his patients he proposed directly founding a German Society of Amyloidosis. There was an instant national and international fiercely agreement by the participants. Thereupon, Dr. Albrecht became founder of this German Society of Amyloidosis on Oct. 8, 1993. This Society was constituted on April 09,1994 in Zurich and became part of the International Society of Amyloidosis thanks to Prof. Alan Cohen.

Foundation of the Amyloid Forum and the German Society of Amyloidosis

We invite you to attend the XIX International Symposium on Amyloidosis to be held in Rochester, MN.

This symposium is organized as a hybrid meeting (with the focus on in-person) held from Sunday, May 26 through Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Together with the ISA Board and members of Mayo Clinic, a very attractive scientific hybrid program is being planned. The program will cover a variety of types of systemic amyloidosis: ATTR (hereditary and wild-type), AL (light-chain), AA and less frequent forms. There will be key lectures, specific symposia including those company sponsored, oral presentations and poster sessions of accepted abstracts.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This program will provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art education in systemic amyloidosis: basic science, pathophysiology, diagnosis, current and emerging treatments. Scientific presentations will include competitive oral and poster abstracts. The rapid evolution of scientific discovery and expanding treatment options has created tremendous interest in the field and this meeting will fill and important gap in educating scientists and clinicians.
