Understanding how healthcare professionals (HCPs) engage with scientific content can significantly influence Pharma’s strategic decisions regarding information provision. This poster by MILE (Medical Information Leaders in Europe) and Datapharm shares insights from UK HCPs’ searches for Scientific Response Documents (SRDs) on emc (medicines.org.uk).
HCPs expect easy access to Medical Information but need to find content online that they can trust. Additionally, they rely most heavily on search engines to find medical content that also allows them to conveniently consume content in their own time, on-demand. This is evidenced by research showing that:
» 79% of HCPs use search engines (e.g. google) for discovering scientific content.1
» 93% want easily downloadable content.2
» 74% of HCPs consider independent websites ‘critical’ or ‘very important’ for accessing scientific content2
To address this previously unmet need, Medical Information Leaders in Europe (MILE) collaborated with Datapharm to develop innovative SRD search technology which enables HCPs to retrieve accurate responses to their specific questions about medicines, within their established information seeking journeys.
This search service was successfully developed and piloted following consultation with the MHRA and input from Medical Information experts within the Pharma industry. It is located via a dedicated tab on the medicine product page on emc - HCPs are required to self-certify before accessing it, and searches will return only relevant results to the term(s) entered.
 
 
 
Our insights on SRD searches shed light on how HCPs are searching for online medicines information, including:
-          What kind of information about the medicine HCPs are looking for most
-          Any common patient symptoms identified in the search trends
-          What day/time HCPs are searching, and what device they are using
These insights can ultimately be used to identify gaps in the effectiveness of the Medical Information function’s answers to HCPs' frequently asked questions about their medicines.
