Winter Conference 2025:  Dietary guidelines and advice - current and future

Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow an intrinsic 24-hour cycle. These natural processes respond primarily to light and dark and affect most living things, including animals, plants, and microbes. Circadian rhythm regulation plays a crucial role in healthy lives and a dysfunction of circadian rhythm is linked to increased disease risk. 

This meeting includes plenary lectures from the leading experts in the field, supported by evolving science insights from Early Career Researchers. The meeting will explore nutrient and diet interaction with circadian rhythms, chrono-nutrition for health and circadian systems in disease.

Scottish Section Conference 2024

This Winter Conference will be structured around four symposia, with many excellent guest speakers already confirmed. It will explore pathways for prevention of multimorbidity across the life course, the role of ageing, the gut-brain-heart connection, and lifestyle strategies for prevention and management of multimorbidity. It will also consider machine learning and precision nutrition approaches for addressing research challenges in multimorbidity. Furthermore, the conference will provide an opportunity to discuss how we can best take forward future research to address this global health priority.

The Nutrition Society Winter Conference 2023

The Society organises a number of scientific conferences each year, as well as contributing to joint events with other organisations worldwide. Traditionally, the conferences held each year are the Spring Conference, the Irish Section Conference, the Annual Summer Conference and the Winter Conference. The Annual Summer Conference is the largest of the Society’s conferences and takes place in July, attracting up to 400 delegates over 3 – 4 days (usually Monday – Thursday). In addition to conference-themed symposia, the conference also offers satellite sessions and a vibrant evening networking programme, with the option of opportunities for training workshops across or around the programme. 

The Science Committee of the Nutrition Society is now seeking expressions of interest to host the Summer Conference 2023 and to develop the programme, with support of the Science Committee. The Science Committee would also like potential hosts to suggest themes for this conference.

Summer Conference 2023

Overview:
Throughout the life-course, nutrition influences an individual’s growth and development, as well as health and longevity. As such the nutritional needs of individuals and population subgroups vary and biological and social differences between women, men, girls, boys, and gender-diverse people are important considerations. Although different interpretations exist, in general sex refers to the genetic, biological, and physiological attributes that distinguish females, males and intersex whereas gender refers to socio-cultural and politically constructed roles and behaviours associated with a feminine, masculine, or non-binary identity, which vary from society to society. Sex has implications for bioavailability, metabolism, distribution, and elimination of food and nutrients as well as life-stage differences in nutritional requirements. Sex and gender may have implications in how individuals engage in different dietary behaviours and respond to nutrition interventions. Therefore, this conference will explore the integration of the sex variable and the gender dimension in nutrition research and their impact on health.

Conference aim: 
The aim of this conference is to improve our understanding of how to identify and interpret sex and gender differences in nutrition research and to understand how these differences might affect or influence nutrition interventions and outcomes.
