Morressier announces partnership with Clear Skies to bring paper-mill detection to submission workflows

Berlin-based startup partners with Clear Skies to integrate paper-mill fraud detection into its workflows

Berlin, London, Washington DC, Jan 16, 2024 – Morressier, the company transforming scholarly communications, today announced a strategic partnership with Clear Skies, specialized in paper-mill detection. The collaboration introduces a powerful paper-mill detection tool to the Morressier platform, reinforcing the company’s commitment to support the scholarly community in maintaining the highest standards of research integrity.

Morressier users now have access to advanced paper-mill detection, seamlessly integrated into the platform to help identify fraudulent content produced by paper mills, quickly and at scale. It is currently integrated into the Morressier platform and will be available in Journal Manager, a state-of-the-art journal submission system under development, with IOP Publishing on board as the first major client

A paper mill is a company that produces and sells fraudulent manuscripts that resemble genuine scholarly articles. With the increasing sophistication of generative AI models, along with the increasing scale of publication under open-access models, the fraudulent content they produce poses a considerable risk to the academic record, spreading misinformation and putting extra pressure on editors and peer reviewers, as well as increasing costs for publishers.

"We are delighted to partner with Clear Skies to enhance the integrity of content managed on the Morressier platform," said Mădălina Pop, Senior Product Manager at Morressier . "This collaboration aligns with our vision of a world in which all scientific outputs are traceable and trustworthy. The integration of Clear Skies' paper-mill detection will help Morressier users to publish with confidence."

“We’re thrilled to be working with the brilliant team at Morressier to develop and serve the best tools for research integrity,” said Adam Day, creator of the Papermill Alarm and founder of Clear Skies.
